One organism.
I have been growing mushrooms for 32 years. Long before it was a wellness trend. Long before anyone in South Africa was talking about beta-glucans, dual-phase extraction, or antler morphology. I grew them because they fascinated me — organisms that exist at the boundary between kingdoms, between what feeds us and what heals us.
My background is not what you would expect from a mushroom farmer. I trained as a Tool, Jig and Die Maker — precision engineering, CNC metrology, CAD/CAM. Seventeen years in the motor industry building things to tolerances measured in microns. That training never left me.
When I turned my full attention to Ganoderma sichuanense thirteen years ago, I brought an engineer's mind to a biological problem. Measure everything. Validate everything. Trust the data, not the tradition.
The same precision that put parts into engines is what put six independent laboratories behind a single extract.

In 2021 we were accepted into the SAVANT innovation cohort — one of South Africa's most selective programmes for science-led businesses. In 2022, with SEDA support, we completed the technology transfer that brought our full dual-phase extraction capability in-house to our Strand facility. In 2025, Inqaba Biotechnical confirmed our source culture as Ganoderma sichuanense Zhao & Zhang by dual-marker genomic sequencing — ITS 99.69%, EF1-alpha 100%.

Something different entirely.
Most Reishi products on the market are ground fruiting body powder — dried mushroom, milled fine, put in a capsule. The beta-glucan content is modest. The triterpenoid content is marginal. The bioavailability is limited.
Antler morphology was the first breakthrough. Ganoderma sichuanense, cultivated under elevated CO ², grows in branched antler formations rather than the flat conk it forms in open air. HPLC analysis confirmed a 12× compound concentration advantage over standard conk morphology. The antlers concentrate what matters.
Dual-phase extraction was the second breakthrough — a sequential ethanolic and aqueous cascade that captures both the fat-soluble triterpenoids and the water-soluble polysaccharide beta-glucan fraction in a single process. The result is MG-LZ8™. 348× the potency of standard Reishi powder. Not claimed. Documented.
A single 15mg dose delivers the molecular density equivalent of 5,400mg of standard Reishi powder. The engineer in me needed to know that number was real before I would put it on a label.

We have been married for 19 years. We have been in business together for 14. And we are still in love.
She is our Operations Director in title. In practice she is the reason Mushroom Guru functions — the reason orders go out on time, the reason stockists trust us, the reason the facility in Strand runs the way it does. Behind every product that leaves our door is Nikki's quiet insistence on doing it properly.
I get to do the science. She makes sure the science becomes something people can hold in their hands.
