"The Mushroom is the Teacher"
The word guru, as a noun, means "teacher" or "imparter of knowledge" in Sanskrit.
As an adjective, guru means "heavy with knowledge".
Mushrooms have more to teach us than you know.
Welcome to Mushroom Guru. This website is designed to give you accurate information about mushrooms that you can eat and mushrooms that you should avoid.
If you would like to learn how to grow these mystifying specimens yourself...we may have a solution for you.
Mushroom Guru delivers mushroom education via an online training platform, The Fungal Academy, informal attendance workshops and courses and social media platforms.
Mushroom Guru also produces spawn and mushroom cultures for the general public and to a growing mushroom cultivating community called fungkifriends™
From spawn and cultivation supplies, to training hosted at the factory in Strand, Mushroom Guru has become the "go-to" website for mushroom information in South Africa.
We boast a culture library of 64 mushroom species, of which you get to choose 10 at our Advanced Fungi Culturing Course
In the introduction workshop, you will learn about Exotic and Medicinal Mushrooms and learn how to inoculate your own Oyster mushroom "take home bag". Once you have made up your own bag and learnt how to add the mushroom spawn, you then take it home and look after it. In a short while, you will have mushrooms growing from your grow bag. Read more
This fungi culturing course is NOT a group mushroom course. You will be only one of two delegates on the day and will therefore receive the required attention that you need, to learn in your own way. Your learning and instruction will come from: documents designed for this fungi course; practical
demonstrations; assistance and guidance from Craig.
The four sections of the mushroom course overlap each other in content, which all compliment one another. Read more
The Mushroom Industry is Growing in South Africa!
Since the launch of Mushroom Guru, in 2013, the mushroom industry in South Africa has grown and given rise to new beginnings for many inspired mushroom cultivators.
Mushroom Guru has trained over 500 workshop attendees and 115 Advanced Fungi delegates to date, all of which are now referred to as fungkifriends™.
I love every minute when I am busy with a DIY project!
If you would like to book your seat for our next workshop or just view what we have to offer, please visit our Mushroom Workshops page.
We offer online and attendance mushroom workshops and courses.
In our workshop you will learn about the different types of mushrooms that you can grow at home and how to grow them. You will be guided through the process of preparing substrates and making a grow bag. How to handle your mushroom spawn is also an important part of this workshop.
In the Advanced Fungi Culturing Course you learn everything, from making your own cultures using a wild specimen, to making grow bags with various species. This course is not for the 'faint hearted'.
Once you have done a workshop or course and you are considering growing your own mushrooms, consider becoming a fungkifriend™!
We will use this website to set you up with a profile or listing to attract customer leads! Currently, we have an average of 1200 visits to our site daily, of which 38% return and a bounce rate of 26%. These are fantastic figures!
